A Cautionary Tale

On the foolishness of hope and dreaming.

There was an old man by a stream,

Come fa la la la lady,

Who fell asleep and had a dream,

All on the bank so shady.

He dreamt the stream was made of wine,

It flowed along so merry,

And when he drank it tasted fine,

Like plum and elderberry,

And all the banks were made of cake,

Come ringle ding my dearie,

As nice as any cook can bake,

That old man felt quite cheery.

He drank and ate with right good will,

Til wakened by his …

I have a song to sing, O!

Sing me your song, O!

It is sung to the moon

By a love-lorn loon,

Who fled from the mocking throng, O!

It's a song of a merryman, moping mum,

Whose soul was sad, and whose glance was glum,

Who sipped no sup, and who craved no crumb,

As he sighed for the love of a ladye.

Heighdy! heighdy!

Misery me — lack-a-day-dee!

He sipped no sup, and he craved no crumb,

As he sighed for the love of a ladye!

Like many girls growing up on or around d'Acier lands, she was named partly for Elaine d'Acier, founder of the Knights of the Sunrise Pass. Her name is also a reference to her uncle Raynor, a yeoman-born Knight-Errant who died in a skirmish with orcs in the Barrens while attempting to complete a Test of Mettle for the house.

She was brought up in a weaver Cabal near the edge of the barrens close to Summerholm. During her early teenage years she watched many knights errants on their tests of mettle from many noble houses across Dawn. Many of these young knight errants never returned. You will find me at Noonvale on the side of a hill,

When the summer is peaceful and high,

There where streamlets meander the valley is still,

'Neath the blue of a calm cloudless sky.

Look for me at dawning when the earth is asleep.

Till each dew drop is kissed by the day,

'Neath the rowan and alder a vigil I'll keep,

And I saw mighty arms much stronger than my arms could ever be

So I thought perhaps that field was not for me

In enterprise of martial kind,

When there was any fighting,

He led his Army from behind —

He found it less exciting.

But when away his Army ran,

His place was at the fore, O —
